Title: A Guide to Climate Change Lunacy: Bad Forecasting, Terrible Solutions
Author: Mark Lawson
New edition: 2026
ISBN: 9781921421426
Format: Paperback, 234 pages
A Guide to Climate Change Lunacy takes a provocative, sceptical look at one of the most contested issues of our time. Mark Lawson challenges the confidence placed in climate forecasting, computer models, renewable energy schemes and sweeping policy claims, asking whether the evidence really justifies the certainty. First published in 2010 and now re-released, the book is striking for how many of its arguments still resonate today. Written for the general reader, not the specialist, it is lively, accessible and often entertaining. Agree or disagree, this is a book that will make you question assumptions, revisit old predictions and think for yourself.
Mark Lawson is an Australian journalist and writer. At the time A Guide to Climate Change Lunacy was written, he was working for the Australian Financial Review, although the book was written independently and does not represent the views of the newspaper. Lawson has reported on the energy industry and has written extensively on climate change, forecasting and public policy. He has also contributed articles to Online Opinion.
Lawson approaches the climate debate as a journalist and informed layman rather than as a climate scientist, examining the reliability of forecasts, computer modelling, energy policy and the claims made by scientists, governments and activists. Throughout the book he argues for scepticism, open debate and closer scrutiny of predictions that carry major economic and political consequences.
